ANNOUNCING NUTRITION EDUCATION ON THE INTERNET

WHAT IS WIC?

WIC is the Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children.  WIC supplies extra food for:

  • Women - Pregnant, Breast-feeding or Postpartum (Exclusive breast-feeding package is available)
  • Infants - Under 1 year of age
  • Children - 1 to 5 years of age

HOW CAN I GET WIC FOODS?

  • You must live in Livingston County
  • Meet WIC income guidelines (shown below)
  • You must call and schedule an appointment
  • You must go to the WIC office for regular appointments
  • You must have a nutritional risk

The following income guidelines are used to determine financial need:

HOW CAN I GET WIC FOODS?

  • It's easy

  • It's fun

  • It's convenient:  you can do it at any time, and anywhere you have Internet access

Just follow these simple instructions to get started:

  1. Visit www.wichealth.org

  2. You will be asked questions about your interests and needs; be sure to click on the Yes/No options.

  3. When you finish the education module you will be asked to complete a small survey. Your answers will be entirely anonymous and confidential and will be used to help improve the site.

  4. When you are done, print off the certificate of completion and place in your WIC folder to give to staff at coupon pickup.

        This will count as your nutrition education.

WIC FOODS

Infants to 1 year:

  • Cereal at 6 months
  • Baby fruits and vegetables at 6 months
  • Some infant formula w/iron will be supplied if you are not breast-feeding; stop breast-feeding; or choose to supplement while breast-feeding

Children 1-5 years old and women who are pregnant, breast-feeding, or postpartum may receive:

  • Milk
  • Cereal
  • Dry beans or peas
  • Fruit or vegetable juice
  • Eggs
  • Peanut butter and cheese
  • Tuna (for exclusively breast-feeding women only)
  • Fruits and vegetables
  • Whole grain options (whole wheat bread, brown rice/soft corn, tortillas/oatmeal choice)

IT IS IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER...

WIC foods are a dietary supplement and alone cannot provide good health and normal growth.
