WHAT IS THE HUBERT WELLNESS CLINIC?

The Wellness Clinic was established in 1988, when Michael G. Hubert bequeathed a portion of his estate to the Livingston County Health Department.  The donation was designated to be used to benefit the residents of Livingston County.  Thus began the program that bears the Hubert name.  Funds from his estate have made it possible for our Health Department to offer Wellness Clinic services for a nominal fee of $30.00.

The Wellness Clinic is designed to screen for potential health problems and risks.  It is not meant to be utilized as a substitute for a visit to your physician.

The Wellness Clinic is held on two or three days each month at the LCPHD building.

Satellite clinics are available for businesses that want to provide this service to their employees. We will bring the services to your workplace ($35.00).  Please call the LCPHD at (815) 844-7174 for details.

WHAT SERVICES ARE INCLUDED AT THE WELLNESS CLINIC?

  1. Blood Pressure Check
  2. Blood Testing - Includes blood count; lipid panel (good/bad cholesterol and triglycerides); glucose (for diabetes); other tests that may indicate liver or kidney function problems. Results of these tests will be delivered to the participants within one week.
  3. Healthy living information is available to each participant.  This literature describes methods to help you modify your lifestyle to promote wellness.
  4. Coffee and juice are offered at the end of your appointment.

WHAT ARE THE FEES?

The cost is $30.00. Add $8.00 for osteoporosis screening (women) and/or add $20.00 for TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone). Add $22.00 for PSA Screening (Prostate Cancer) for men. Add $30.00 for Hemoglobin A1C (for diabetics).

Established Wellness clients may have Hepatic panel and/or lipid panel drawn for $15.00 each.  These tests monitor cholesterol factors OR effects of cholesterol-lowering medications. Please call the Wellness Clinic nurse for details about this service.

HOW DO I PREPARE FOR THE WELLNESS CLINIC?

  1. Call the LCPHD at (815) 844-7174 for an appointment.
  2. DO NOT EAT for at least 8 hours (we prefer 12 hours) before your appointment.
  3. Drink ONLY WATER during the 8 hours before your appointment. DRINK AT LEAST 8 GLASSES OF WATER DURING THE DAY BEFORE THE APPOINTMENT.
  4. DO DRINK at least 2 to 3 glasses of water the morning of your appointment.
  5. You may take medication (with water), if necessary, the morning of your appointment.
  6. Please wear clothing that will allow the nurse access to your arms for a blood pressure check and blood draw.
  7. Please allow 20 to 30 minutes for your total appointment.
  8. Women - if having an osteoporosis screening, do not wear pantyhose.

At the clinic, a nurse will record your height, and blood pressure.  If your blood pressure is high or low, you will be referred to your physician or be asked to return to the Health Department again to have it rechecked.  The nurse will also draw a sample of blood which will be sent to a laboratory for testing.  The blood tests include a complete blood count, a blood chemistry profile which includes:  lipid panel (with a breakdown of good/bad cholesterol and triglycerides), glucose level (to screen for diabetes), as well as other tests that may indicate liver or kidney function problems. Results of the blood tests will be mailed to each participant within one week.  You will receive two copies of the lab results, one copy for your records at home and one copy to take to your medical provider.

The Hubert Wellness Clinic is held 2 or 3 times a month at the Health Department by appointment.  Appointments start at 7:10 A.M.  The Wellness Clinic is offered to any Livingston County resident age 18 or over.  You may participate in the clinic once each year.  Established Wellness clients may have a lipid panel or Hepatic panel more frequently if warranted.  Call the Health Department to make your appointment for the Wellness Clinic.
