Shingles is a recurring infection of the herpes zoster virus,
which is the same virus that causes chickenpox. The risk of shingles
increases as you get older. The first signs of shingles are often felt and
not seen. These can include: itching, tingling, and burning. A few days
later a rash of fluid-filled blisters appears (usually on one side of the
body or face). The blisters may take 2-4 weeks to heal.
Shingles can be painful and cause serious problems. Shingles
may lead to pain that lasts for months or even years in some people.
Anyone over the age of 60 may receive the vaccine.
